It seems ok for asthma or allergy, but this barrier is very, very uncomfortable.
It has no smell, but it is hot, so hot, and has an unpleasant feeling .
Not comfortable.
Update:
I have been using it for a couple of months:
PROS:
1) it is effective for allergy, and with time it gets better.
2) it has no smell at all ( no plastic, or antibacterial odor)
CONS:
1) it makes the bed hot, a torture in summer, ok in cold weather
2) has a “gripping effect” maybe so it doesn’t slide over the mattress, but you won’t either, when you turn around at night, you are sort of stuck, very uncomfortable to me.
3) there are few size options, so you have to tuck the surplus under the mattress
Conclusion:
For allergy (and/or asthma) it does help a lot, but I had to cover it with a mattress pad, to make it comfortable, otherwise I could not sleep.
For this expensive price, it should already come with a fresh and cozy topping, maybe 100 % allergy free cotton.

I have a friend that ran into a problem with bedbugs. It was embarassing for her but it happens. Being in the bedding industry I did some research and found that not only do you need a high quality cover for the mattress but you need to cover the box springs (foundation) as well (bedbugs like to hide there). I was very familiar with Protect-A-Bed products and knew them to be very well made and worth the money.
I helped to put this on and I was a little disapointed in the thickness of this cover. It didn’t tear but it could have if I wasn’t so careful. Still, I think that it is the best one on the market and it you are concerned with bedbugs or dust-mites then you will want this encasement.
I had a bed bug problem and they were nesting on the box spring. It takes months to get rid of them but because I used this on my box spring I trapped them inside (I guess that was what happened) and since then the problem is gone. Before putting it on the box spring I cleaned and, vacuum and sprayed just in case there were eggs around. If you follow instructions it will not rip.
This cover ripped within a few weeks of putting it on my box spring, rendering it useless. I bought it with the mattress cover, which is great, but the box spring cover is of poor quality.
I was very careful to put on the encasement as instructed. Even so,both my husband and I ended up with tiny holes in the base where the corner protectors are. The fabric is too fragile for the area it protects.
We taped up the corners with duct tape and prepared everything. We had to duct tape the holes which defeated the whole purpose of the protector. It is not worth the money. Find a product for the box spring that is tougher.
I thought that this was gonna be the boxspring encasement that covers the whole boxspring. Now i realized its suppose be a protector for the boxspring encasement. this was a waste of money. It only covers half my box spring! Im so disappointed and paid good money for this thing. Now i have to go back on here and find a real boxspring encasement not a cover. When i read the description to this product it said 3 way zipper locked system. When i got it it was just a coverlet! What a rip off!
